New Lab Employees
Required Initial Training for Lab Employees
- SVM Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP) - Read, review and sign
- SVM Emergency Action and Evacuation Plan (EAP) - Read, review and sign
- Complete a Job Safety Analysis (JSA) - Read, review and sign each page (these need to be updated as job tasks change)- most of these hazards are covered in your lab Risk Assessment as well
- Complete the UC Laboratory Safety Fundamentals course - UC requirement, good for three years
- Assessment - Laboratory specific, Primary Investigator specified hazards and Personal Protective Equipments (PPE) assignment (requires annual review/verification)
- Complete the Hazard Communication course - UC requirement, good for three years

The authorizations and training sessions in the following areas are determined by an individual's Principal Investigator:

Biological Safety
- Proper Handling of Materials at Biosafety Level 1
- UC Davis Biosafety Level 2
- UC Davis Bloodborne Pathogens
- Safe Use of Biological Safety Cabinet
- Biowaste Handling and 49CFR have now been replaced by UC Davis Medical Waste Management
- Shipping biohazadous material?

Chemical Safety
- UC Chemicals - requires annual review/verification - this training is HIGHLY recommended for new users
- Fume Hood Training - Course required to be taken once.
- Hazardous Material and Hazardous Waste Management - requires annual review/verification
